THE Guyana Police Force (GPF), yesterday, reported statistics in relation to the crimes of murder and robbery under arms for the period January 1 to March 31, 2013.
The report said, corresponding figures for the same period in 2012, show an overall decrease of three percent in serious crimes.
The total number of serious crimes committed between January 1 and March 31, 2013 was 948, as compared to 976
for the same time in 2012.
The report said some of the offences monitored are murder, robbery under arms, robbery with violence, larceny from the person, break and enter and larceny, burglary, rape and kidnapping.
Twenty-seven murders were recorded at the end of March 2013, in comparison to 28 during the same time in 2012, indicating a four percent decrease. Of the 27 murders, 11 were of the disorderly type, six committed during armed robberies, one was execution style, two domestic related and the other seven, so far, undetermined.
At the end of March 2013, robbery under arms had decreased by four percent, recording 234 as compared to 245 over the same time in 2012, showing a reduction of five percent with the use of firearms and four percent in armed robberies where instruments other than firearms were used.
Meanwhile, police, during a routine patrol in the city, recovered a motorcycle and a gun after they were abandoned by a man on Tuesday, about 12:40 hrs.
The ranks were approaching the man on the motorcycle, at Back Circle, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, when he dropped the vehicle and fled, also discarding an unlicensed 9 mm pistol with seven matching rounds.
