PATIENT batting from West Indies middle -order batsman Narsingh Deonarine who struck three fours in his 51, ensured Guyana defeated Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) by five wickets in their sixth round West Indies Cricket Board Super50 fixture at the

Guyana National Stadium last night.
Replying to the visitor’s 175 all out, of which Anthony Alleyne topscored with a 96 ball 58 that was decorated with three fours and Nekoli Parris contributing 31, Guyana made heavy weather of the target, before ending on 178 for 7 off 48 overs.
Earlier in the contest, the visitors won the toss and opted to bat first in hazy conditions, labored to 28 for 1 at the end of the first Power Play with Alleyne on 11 and Shacaya Thomas, who pulled a short delivery from Ronsford Beaton over backward squareleg for 6, on 15.
This was after Steven Jacobs sent back Chadwick Walton for 1, bowling the opener with the final delivery of his team’s first over.
As the Guyanese dried up the runs, CCC lost two quick wickets in Thomas and skipper Kyle Corbin, who were both bowled by Devendra Bishoo for 22 and 00 respectively in the 19th over, with their team, leaving Anthony Alleyne on 19 and CCC 43 for 3.
They realised the 50 from 22.5 overs and at the half way stage of their innings were 59 for 3 with Alleyne on 27 and Nekoli Parris 7, with the pair adding 57 for the fourth wicket, raising the team’s 100 off 34 overs before Parris holed out to Griffith at deep midwicket.
The Caribbean students took the batting Power Play at the start of the 36th over and saw Floyd Reifer hitting Jacobs’ first ball for 4 through point, before Alleyne realized his 50 off 84 balls with three fours, when he steered a lively looking Beaton to the vacant point position.
Floyd Reifer opened his shoulders with an inside out four over extra cover off Jacobs in the 38th over, before he lost his off stump to one from Wintz for 14, but not before he drove Jacobs on the up for 4 through point.
He was followed by Alleyne, who was run out at the non-strikers’ end in his attempt to steal a third run to fine leg, bringing an end to his resilient innings, following which the team folded after to the pace spin combination that operated for the Guyanese.
All told, CCC lost their last five wickets for 46 runs, as the Guyanese kept a tight rein on their batting, thanks to the bowling of Wintz and Bishoo who took two wickets each for 28 and 31 runs respectively.
Griffith started in a pugnacious mood for Guyana, turning Jason Dawes off his legs for four, followed by another boundary which came off a free hit that was driven through cover point with authority, as Guyana raced to 25 without loss after three overs.
However, the home team lost three quick wickets to slip to 50 for 3 in the ninth over, following the demise of Chanderpaul for 2 and Ramnaresh Sarwan (05) and Griffith, who offered Williams a return catch after facing 39 deliveries for his 33 which was decorated with five fours.
Leon Johnson and Deonarine pushed Guyana past the 100 run mark, picking up the odd boundaries coupled with the singles by easing the ball through the gaps, at the same time realizing their 50 run partnership with Johnson on 28 and Deonarine 21.
Guyana lost Johnson, who was caught and bowled by Parris for 37 (76b, 2×4) at 118 for 4 in the 32nd over, bringing an end to his 68 runs partnership with Deonarine, who was on 28 as Jacobs made his way to join him with Guyana needing 58 more to win.
Jacobs was given a life by Alleyne when on 1, with the fielding grassing a straight forward chance when stationed at short midwicket off Parris, with Guyana 121 for 4 in the 34th over, before the right hander was lbw to Dewar for 12 at 147 for 5.
Deonarine who was later declared the Man of the Match and Bramble carried Guyana closer to victory, before Deonarine lobbed one back to Ryan Austin, who had Permaul taken at forward short leg by Thomas off the next delivery, leaving Guyana on 166 for 7.
Bramble and Bishoo took them home, with the latter hitting Austin for two fours in the 48th over to complete the win, as he ended on 11 not out off 9 balls and Bramble 12 against the bowling of Austin, Williams and Parris who took two wickets each for 31, 34 and 35 runs respectively.
