FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (CMC) — Suriname opened their account when they handed Bahamas their fourth straight defeat in an ICC Americas Division 1 Twenty20 tournament match at Brian Piccolo Park yesterday. Meanwhile, Bermuda, who scored at more than eight runs an over, made it three wins in a row as veteran all-rounder Janeiro Tucker led his side to a 46-run victory over the Cayman Islands at the Central Broward County International Cricket Stadium.
Suriname, who earlier in the week lost to the United States and Bermuda, posted a modest 121-9 but it proved enough to earn them a 20-run victory after restricting the Bahamas to 101-8.
Shazam Ramjohn (32) and Charles Douglas (25) were the main contributors to the Suriname total as Narendra Ekanayake picked up 3-18.
Opener Marc Taylor kept the Bahamas in the hunt but their hopes evaporated when he was run-out for 43 from 44 balls, including three sixes, in the 17th over.
Sauid Drepaul, who had a hand in Taylor’s run-out, was the pick of the Suriname attack with 4-29.
Skipper Stephen Outerbridge, who struck eight fours in his 47-ball 59, and Dion Stovell (32) gave Bermuda a fine start with an opening stand of 81 and Tucker and Lionel Cann maintained the momentum with a third-wicket stand of 59, including three sixes apiece.
Tucker, 38, finished unbeaten on 46 from 27 balls while 40-year-old Cann struck 29 from 16 balls before falling in the final over, the innings closing on 169-3.
Tucker then shackled the Caymanians, claiming 3-22, while fellow medium pacer Gregory Maybury chipped in with 2-21 as the Caymans were held to 123-9, opener Ian Rotsey making 32 and Kevin Bazil 26.
Later yesterday Bermuda faced the U.S. and Suriname took on the Caymans.
The top two countries will advance to November’s ICC World T20 global qualifiers in Dubai.
