Semi-final stage set for Petra/Milo U-20 Schools Football

THE semi-final stage of the Petra/Milo Schools Football Competition has been decided following the contesting of the quarterfinal stage over the weekend at the Ministry of Education Ground (MOE), Carifesta Avenue.

altYesterday, the second semi-final match was decided when South Ruimveldt and Tucville Secondary defeated their opponents Richard Ishmael and Bishops’ High, 3 – 1 and 4 – 2, respectively. These two winners will battle on Wednesday at the same venue.
On Saturday, Carmel Secondary and St. George’s Secondary secured the spots for the first semifinal match up. Carmel squeezed past Chase’s Academy 4 – 3 while St. George’s defeated Charlestown 3 – 2 on penalty kicks. The winners will battle each other on Wednesday also.
In the curtain raiser yesterday, goals from Jamain Beckles (20th) and Keith Caines (28th) gave South Ruimveldt the lead approaching half time but Ray Stanton pulled one back in the 36th minute for the opposition.
After the resumption, Martain Adams scored the decider for South Ruimveldt in the 70th minute to ease into the next round.
In the second showdown Bishops’ High  Shamal Lewis scored goals in the 40th and 70th minutes while Ryan Blackman (52nd) and Dorwin Filter (72nd) scored for Tucville which sent the games to extra time. During extra time, a goal each for Blackman and Filter would ensure a spot for Tucville in the semis.
Saturday’s action saw Marlon Nedd with a helmet-trick for Carmel Secondary. He scored in the 43rd, 52nd, 59th and 76th minutes. His effort overshadowed those of Stephen Sankar (22nd, 68th) and Isaiah Reddy (60th) from Chase’s Academy.
In the other match, goals from Okeney Cogenton (57th), Ozeal Small (70th) and Quancy Laurence for St. George’s, and Shane Morris (46th, 83rd) and Anthony Barthlomer (50th) for Charlestown led the game into extra time where no goal was scored. The penalty shootout is where St. George’s eventually prevailed.
