EDWIN Miles (no address given) was refused bail Wednesday on a break and enter and larceny charge.
He appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on March 13, at Sussex and Lombard Streets, Georgetown, he broke and entered the bond of Leon Reid and stole a 100-pound gas cylinder, valued $50,000.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, successfully objected to the grant of pre-trial freedom for the defendant, telling the Court that the latter has no fixed place of abode.
The defendant, requesting his liberty, told the Court he is willing to surrender his passport but the magistrate turned down his application and put off the case to March 28.
Earlier, Miles claimed that he and the virtual complainant had an arrangement to keep items in the storage. He said he returned from overseas and went to the bond because he had heard that the virtual complainant’s son had punctured his boat that was there.
He said, when he arrived at the location, he broke the lock and waited for the virtual complainant but the police came, instead, and arrested him.
Miles, however, denied stealing anything from the place.
