HELP and Shelter on Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown, yesterday afternoon handed over kits on Break the Cycle, Stop the Violence documentary to 20 organisations in an effort to create awareness.
The kits will be used to assist people in the communities to become aware of domestic violence and its effects on the victims and their families.
Help and Shelter Counsellor Salima Hinds said yesterday that enclosed in each kit are a copy of the documentary and brochures as well as posters. The documentary was launched on February 19.
She said that the documentary which is 28 minutes long depicts many acts and forms of domestic and gender-based violence and the stories of many abused women. Those in attendance were able to view the film.
Of the 20 organisations which were given the kit, more than 10 showed up for the handing-over ceremony yesterday afternoon.
The organisations include the Guyana Responsible Parenthood Association (GRPA); Women Across Differences; Roadside Baptist Church and Skills Centre;The Guyana Bible Society; The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG); Artistes in Direct Support; MOHA S4 Foundation; and the Society Against Sexual Orientation Discrimination (SASOD).
