A large array of exhibits will include flower plants in containers and also in hanging baskets, floral and foliage arrangements, cactus, garden grown vegetables and fruits, large ground displays of plants, and even culinary herbs.
Mrs. Allison Noord, Secretary/Treasurer of the HSG, disclosed that there will be a special class of competition for children sixteen years and under.
The judges will be looking for plants grown in bottles, kitchen sinks, pans, kettles, or old boots or objects not normally associated with gardening; and preferably capable of evoking humour.
As in previous years, the overall competition is expected to be keen. Judges will look for perfect blooms; for well shaped flowers with clear colours or colour combinations; for plants well grown and nicely balanced; for superb foliage; and for freshness, tenderness, and uniformity of size and colour in fruits and vegetables on show.
The organizers anticipate that the displays will inspire visitors, and provide practical ideas for home gardens and for do-it-yourselfers who attend.
Gardeners of all levels will find something to learn from demonstrations to be put on by Caribbean Chemicals (Guyana) Ltd., Farfan and Mendes, and the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI).
Shoppers will find plant pots by Dawn and Paul, and plants grown by horticulturalists Nalissa Lakna, Juliet Nurse, Aelen Ross, Charles Nelson, the HSG, Vanessa Wallerson, and others.
Caribbean Chemicals will also feature and sell plant foods and fertilizers.
Farfan & Mendes will showcase gardening equipment and tools.
A well stocked refreshment stall and tea shop will be in attendance.
The show begins at 10:00hrs, and lasts until 18:00hrs on both days.
Admission prices for the 2013 staging of the annual show are a mere $500 for adults and $100 for children.
