Crime Chief reports…. Death of Berbice septuagenarian accidental

A POST-MORTEM, performed yesterday, on the body of 70-year-old Jasmattie Pooran, of Guava Bush, Albion, Corentyne, Berbice, revealed that she died as a result of suffocation.

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud, who disclosed the findings, said the woman’s death can now be deemed as accidental.
Police previously reported that Pooran was found dead at her home about 11:10 hrs on January 19.
The septuagenarian lived alone and her corpse was on the floor of the kitchen that was in a separate building.
The body bore bruises and her hands were tied together with cloth and a piece of canvas rope was over her mouth.
Meanwhile, other autopsies were conducted by Government Pathologist Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan, yesterday too, on the bodies of Bhanmattie Devi Bacchus, 28, and Narendra Thakoor, 44,of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, in Berbice, as well.
The cause of death of Bacchus was given as haemorrhage and shock due to incised wounds while that of Thakoor was ingestion of a poisonous substance.
Bacchus was killed by Thakoor on January 16 before he committed suicide.
