UWI’s Institute of International Relations hosts seminar in Guyana today – on prospects and challenges for CARICOM States in the pursuit of Regional Integration in the 21st Century

THE Institute of International Relations at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad, in collaboration with the M.Sc (Global Studies) Guyana Alumni Group and the Guyana Defence Force has organised a Seminar under the theme, ‘Prospects and challenges for CARICOM States in the pursuit of Regional Integration in the 21st Century’.

The event will be held at Cara Lodge on Quamina Street, Georgetown this morning, beginning at 09:00 hrs.alt
Among the presenters are UWI faculty members, alumni and current graduate students from Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad, Barbados and Jamaica.

The topics to be discussed include small states in the integration process, sovereignty in the Commonwealth  Caribbean and its impact on regional integration,  climate change and the environment, UNASUR and its implications for CARICOM, the social dimension of regional integration, security cooperation in the hemisphere, among others.
It is envisaged that this event will generate fresh perspectives on integration issues and provide the opportunity for  interaction and scholarly discussion amongst the participants.
