Family demanding thorough probe into pre-Christmas fatal accident

THE grief stricken family is demanding that the police conduct a thorough investigation into the December 22, 2012 Golden Fleece Public Road accident, that claimed the life of their loved one, Bode Persaud known as ‘Blacks’, of Forty Feet, Zorg Village, also on Essequibo Coast. The relatives of the deceased fisherman are not pleased with what has been done, so far, specially because the driver of the motor car that was involved has not been detained nor charged by the police.
One woman said, when she tried to find out, from the police at Suddie, what progress has been made in the probe, she was told not to focus on the station but her sick father in hospital.
It is reported that the 59-year-old man was struck by the speeding car while he was urinating on the road shoulder at around 20:30 hrs.
Relatives said they were told, by persons who witnessed the accident that the vehicle was heading to Anna Regina when it hit Persaud, hurling him several feet into the air.
Badly injured, the man landed on the car bonnet and broke the windscreen before hitting the ground.
His relatives said the driver was trying to flee the scene after the accident but several residents who saw what had happened and shouted that they had the vehicle registration number and that prevented him from driving away.
Persaud was rushed to the Suddie Hospital where he was admitted but died there seven days later.
His grieving wife, Daywattie cried when she saw her husband in the hospital three days before Christmas but she said the doctors and nurses there must be commended for their efforts to save the patient and she is very thankful to them for what they did.
The mother of six daughters said she is seeking justice and wants a proper investigation to be conducted into the death of her husband and for the law to take its course.
Meantime, the dead man was buried on Sunday at a funeral attended by hundreds at Zorg, on Essequibo Coast, too.
