JERMAINE Daley, 19, of Lot 26 Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara, was remanded to prison yesterday on a charge of robbery under arms. He was refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry after he pleaded not guilty and Police Inspector Burgette Grant, prosecuting, said he is a flight risk.
Particulars of the offence said the defendant, on December 17, being armed with a gun and together with others, robbed Andy Batson of a cap valued $6,500, a cell phone priced at $25,000 and $39,000 cash.
The prosecutor said the virtual complainant was standing on the Agricola Public Road, Greater Georgetown, when the defendant and two other males approached him.
The defendant put a gun to Batson’s head and demanded that he hand over his belongings, which he did and the trio made good their escape.
However, Daley was, subsequently, arrested and positively identified by the victim, the court heard.
The case was put off to January 25.
