One can simply highlight their décor this festive season by taking home a piece of colourful art from Van Meer Art Gallery.    The artist, Comrad Meertins has real thing, splendid paintings, one would love to have in their home, most attractive painting that brings on the feeling of the season.
Quite distinct, delegated, educated, ambitious and skilled, active intelligent Guyanese native, Comrad Meertins, born September 23rd 1943 developed his artistic abilities very young. He strove relentlessly to create a medium through the fusion of painting and woodcraft, which culminated in the evolution of a unique three-dimensional art form. The inspired artist, passionate love for art became a reality as he continued to draw and paint. Becoming an artist is what he loved doing. Despite being a pilot touring around the Caribbean skies he developed a love which made him, make a sudden switch. Both of his careers were skilled professions, but, his ambitions grew more in becoming an artist.
His dream led him to becoming more motivated and business oriented. This captivating presentation, achieved by juxtaposing shapes one on another, certainly evokes a lyrical sense of art and form. His stylist consistency and selection of source material can be observed in the exciting “Van Meer” collection. The objective venture made him equipped with his own staff and managing his own business.
What a dramatic change, from a pilot to an artist?
Comrad love and passion made him enthusiastic to enter a competition at a tender age winning. So distinct, and created, he took on the responsibility and enters the business world with his creative name Van Meer Art.  Quite recently Comrad held a three day exhibition at his place, Van Meer Art displaying his fine art and crafted pieces put together designing the Red House, Light House, Stabroek Market, Kaieteur Falls, St George’s Cathedral and many, many more.  
However, Van Meer Art can be easily found in the vicinity of Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, opposite North Georgetown Secondary school.
Guyanese artist Comrad Meertins continued as he ventured into this most distinguished art phenomena and being a unique inspired person who always dreamt of becoming an artist. He claimed his inspiration stemmed from doing art with original then famous Guyanese master Edgar R. Burrowes, a lecturer of Queens College, who taught him every aspect of art.
According to Comrad, his motivation from an early age led him to the Dutch ancestry that included the boat builders-genealogy providing him a talent for woodwork and craftsmanship, and by applying that keen sense of detail, as part of his repertoire of skills, while he roved the Caribbean skies for three decades.
However, Mr. Meertins became enthusiastic in art and followed this subject even in General Certificate of Education (GEC) Oxford and Cambridge. His artistry continued during his career as a pilot and also a captain for major airlines in the region. He stated that during his spare moments he used those hours to develop a three dimensional format where he continuously sketched, paint and then assemble whenever he returns home from his work, this helped him to improve his talented skills.
Comrad emphasized his desire and love at the age of ten made him entered his first competition and won. The prevailing factor in his complex restless nature remained art.  
However, he noted that his wooden handicraft in Guyana and the current craft evolved from original creations. His consistency and well selected source of material can be observed in the exciting “Van Meer” collection.
Comrade noted that he was optimistic about his motive set out to acquire his achievements, so the multi-tasked general started designing residential and commercial interiors including offices, restaurants and night clubs.    
Accordingly, he intends to venture out with his skilled and recognized work into the international world.
