K&S/CHICO Inter-Primary C’ships Grove edge Soesdyke : -Tucville maul Buxton Primary amidst protest

DESPITE the sporadic efforts of their custodian Tyrel Khan, Soesdyke Primary School still suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Grove Primary in the inaugural Kashif and Shanghai organized Edward B. Beharry/Chico sponsored Inter-primary School Championships at the Georgetown Football Club ground yesterday. Also in winner’s row on the second day of action was Tucville Primary School, who inflicted a 7-0 drubbing on Company Road Primary School that contested the fixture under protest, as Tucville played Ryan Hackett, even though he is not a bona fide student of that institution.
In the opening fixture of the day’s four matches, BV/Quamina Primary defeated West Ruimveldt 1-0, thanks to Israel Yaw’s 3rdminute goal before Soesdyke and Grove took the field and thrilled the appreciative crowd on hand with a wonderful display of football, despite the muddy and slippery conditions underfoot.
Khan proved to be a stubborn customer for Grove, when he saved four of the five penalty kicks that were awarded to their team before his opposite number Shaun Dominick left the comfort of his team’s goal area to show his teammates how it is done, when he beat Khan with a penalty kick in the 29th minute of the contest.
Up next were the Uitvlugt versus St. Gabriel’s encounter, which the former who fielded the lone female player on show so far in the tournament, came out on top 2-0 following a nil all first half, with Shamar Hartman (30th) and David Blake (35th) finding the back of the net for the victors.
In the final game of the day’s play, Tucville Primary through Jeremy Garrett’s helmet trick which was scored in the 11th, 16th, 30th and 34th minute of play, coupled with Hackett’s hat trick that was scored in the 6th, 13th and 29th minute respectively, drubbed Company Road Primary 7-0.
However, the East Coast Demerara based Company Road lineup lodged a complaint against Hackett, who represented Lodge Secondary in this year’s Digicel’s Inter-Secondary School football tournament, with the South Georgetown based school going on to win the Georgetown zone.
The action continues tomorrow (Christmas Day) with four more matches commencing at 14:00hrs, with Company Road taking on Grove, BV/Quamina opposing Uitvlugt, Tucville facing Soesdyke and West Ruimveldt challenging St. Gabriel’s.
