Court told… Public-spirited citizen helped arrest gun robbers

ODEL Nelson, of Lot 66 West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme and Wayne Gilbert, of Lot 13 West La Penitence, also in Georgetown, were both refused bail yesterday on a joint robbery under arms charge.

They appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on December 19, being armed with a gun, they robbed O’Neil Fraser of one cell phone valued $40,000 and one gold band worth $100,000.
Police Corporal Kerry Bostwick, prosecuting, told the court that one of the defendants placed the firearm to Fraser’s head and the other took away his belongings.
But a public-spirited citizen saw what transpired and drew his weapon on the duo before summoning the police.
The remanded prisoners will make their next court appearance on January 8, 2013.
