altIn the opening match of the night, Houston Stars suffered a humiliating 0-5 defeat at the hands of last year’s third-place finishers, Sunburst Camptown then Flamingo suffered an even worse fate.
Fruta Conquerors, led by former national striker Vernon Mills, bulldozed their way into the quarterfinal round while Flamingo were defeated 11-0 in the feature showdown.
In the feature match, Flamingo managed to keep Conquerors by just one goal ahead, a goal which was scored in the first half by Jermaine Junior (41st). However, the second half was a completely different ball game with the eventual victors scoring an additional ten goals.
Single goals were scored by Joshua Brown (46th), Steve Nelson (70th) and Dale Lawrence (73rd) while Jamal Greaves recorded a hat-trick and Mills, a late helmet-trick.
Greaves recorded goals in the 53rd, 82nd and 84th minutes while Mills scored in the 56th, 67th, 86th and 90th minutes.
Prior to the Conquerors’ win which took them into the next round, Camptown comfortably booked their place in the quarterfinal, through doubles scored by Devon Forde and Anthony Sancho. Former national player Rishawn Sandiford drew first blood for Camptown in the ninth minute.
Forde doubled the lead for Camptown in the 14th minute then completed his double in the 60th minute while Sancho scored in the 70th and 88th minutes.
