DPP returns Belgrave file to police with recommendations

THE Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), yesterday, confirmed that the Dameon Belgrave file is presently with the Guyana Police Force (GPF) for the necessary course of action in accordance with recommendations emanating from the DPP.

altReportedly at about 21:30hrs on October 05, 2012, ranks of a mobile police patrol challenged the occupants of motor car PGG 3506 at ‘B’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, after observing them attempting to evade the approaching police patrol.
In the ensuing chase around the wards of Georgetown, PGG 3506 eventually stopped in the vicinity of the White Castle Fish Shop on Hadfield Street, Werk-en-Rust, and five men exited the vehicle. During efforts to arrest them, the police discharged rounds, whereupon it was learnt that Dameon Belgrave, 21, of Middle Street, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, who had not been one of the men exiting the car, had been shot to his left side. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Three of the suspects were arrested and had been in police custody, whilst the motor car was detained.
The ranks who were on the mobile police patrol have all been placed under close arrest as investigations continue.
Dameon Belgrave was having a pre-22nd birthday drink on the night he was shot and killed. The three cops involved in the incident, having been placed under close arrest after the DPP had granted an extension of their detention in police custody, are back on active duty.
Dameon Belgrave’s post- mortem revealed that he died from shock and haemorrhage from a bullet which had entered and exited his body.
