Persaud told councillors that the two declined to go and work in the villages on the grounds that the health centres were without running water and electricity and the toilets were not functioning.
The Chairman, who took a strong stand on the matter, said the Regional Administration had dispatched workers to fix the problems at both locations but the medexes continued to remain on the Essequibo Coast.
Persaud said the medexes must stop demanding light and water and making all sorts of excuses for not serving the public in the Amerindian communities.
MAKING DEMANDS
He maintained that the Pomeroon people are without health services while the two medexes are making demands for water and electricity.
The Chairman also informed councillors that Wakapoa Health Centre has solar power but the medex placed a freezer in the building and that shut down the system.
A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Councillor, Mr. Wazir Latiff agreed the two medexes must take up their posts right away and start providing needed health care to the communities.
Alliance For Change (AFC) Councillor, Mr. Archie Cordis concurred that, if the medexes do not take up their appointments, they should be sent home and replaced by other health workers who can do the job.
