Minibus allegedly strikes child on pedestrian crossing. –varying accounts from witnesses –no responses from relevant authorities

ON the last day of Road Safety Week, Friday 30th November 2012, a student of the Golden Grove Primary School was struck by a minibus in front of the pedestrian crossing outside of the school.

Seven-year-old Annalisa Syfox, also known as “Bucky”, speaking to this publication from home, said she is experiencing pain to her right foot, which has an abrasion due to the accident. She said she had just been dropped off at school by another vehicle, and was using the pedestrian crossing when she saw a speeding minibus approaching and thought the driver had perhaps not seen her positioned on the road. She said she attempted to make herself recognizable to the driver by raising her hand straight up to stop the bus, but the accident happened notwithstanding.
Six-year-old Renetta, a cousin of Annalisa, who attends the same school, said she was terrified when she saw Annalisa fall unconscious for awhile. And when Annalisa regained consciousness and started to vomit, two teachers immediately picked her up and rushed her to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was treated and discharged that same day.
The security guard at the school noted that as soon as Annalisa disembarked from the car that had brought her in front of the school, she immediately ran over the road and into the path of the oncoming bus.
Another eyewitness noted that the bus driver was forced to leave the scene after he had been threatened by someone in the crowd.
Effort to reach the bus driver for a comment proved futile, as did efforts to solicit comment from the Police Traffic Department and from school authorities.
The police were summoned to the accident scene.
