Bourda Market businessman blames loss on EZjet carelessness

OWNER of Price Rite Collections in Bourda Market, Georgetown, Mr. Dindyal Persaud has expressed disgust over lost baggage that he blamed on the carelessness of EZjet Airlines.

He told the Guyana Chronicle, yesterday, that he and his family travelled first class with the carrier last month and, when they arrived at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri, it was discovered that only seven of their eight suitcases were there.
Persaud said one suitcase had been left at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York but was brought back by Caribbean Airlines that same afternoon.
However, on arrival it was searched by EZjet and CJIA officials in his absence and some things, including computer parts and accessories, as well as memory cards and more, to the value of US$1,500, were missing, he said.
The businessman claimed that the only items returned to him were some memory cards and computer speakers.
According to him, instead of being reimbursed for his loss, he was given two vouchers, for return travel to the United States (U.S.), which were valid for a period of one year and signed by EZjet’s Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ms. Rosalinda Rasool.
Persaud said, two weeks ago, he used one of the vouchers but, when he returned to the airline last week to utilise the other one, he was told that the system was “down”.
He went back on several occasions and was similarly advised and, subsequently, learnt, through the media, that the airline’s operations were suspended.
Dindyal said he is very disappointed that, even though the airline had promised to refund money to its passengers late November, it did not do so.
