Four teams advance in Guinness Greatest of the Streets competition

FOUR teams have taken one step closer to the title of the Guinness Greatest of the Streets Football Tournament, following the commencement of the quarter-final round on Saturday night at the Banks DIH Parking Lot. Hope Street Tiger Bay, Leopold Street, Queen Street Tiger Bay and West Front Road all recorded victories on that night.
 
Queen Street Tiger Bay was the first to taste victory on Saturday when they needled Stevedore Housing Scheme with Deon Alfred, the scorer, in the 20th minute.
 
Following that was the 2 – 1 victory West Front Road gained over South Ruimveldt. The victor led by 1 – 0 at half time because of Randolph Wagner’s 17th minute strike. Wagner recorded another goal in the 26th minute while the opposition pulled one back the next minute through a Collin Daniels strike.
 
The penultimate game of the night saw Leopold Street and Albouystown top string team battle to a goalless showdown, which eventually led to the game being decided on penalty kicks, which was won by Leopold Street.
 
Closing off the night was the 1 – 0 victory Hope Street Tiger Bay recorded over Alexander Village which had the lone goal being scored by Solomon Austin.
 
Earlier in the night, the exhibition tournament kicked off as Banks DIH drew 1 – 1 with GT All Stars, Clippers Barber Shop defeated Oasis 2 – 0, Upper Level Barbershop defeated YMCA 1 – 0 and Guinness Bar gained a walkover from the Media Team.
 
Meanwhile, the competition continues tomorrow night at the East Ruimveldt Basketball Court from 19:30 hrs.
 
Three exhibition matches will be contested when the night  kicks off until 9:00 pm when East Front Road meets North Last Entrance. Quarterfinal action then continues at 9:45 pm when Globe Yard battles Sophia B, Back Circle tackles Bent Street then the night wraps up with Broad Street B versus East La Penitence.
