Bonasika murder suspect turns self in : Likely to appear in court tomorrow

MURDER accused Devendra Persaud was yesterday handed over to the police by his family members. The police had been searching for him after he allegedly murdered the partner of his reputed wife, while severing the woman’s arm. The almost 15-minute cutlass assault occurred on Thursday night at Bonasika Creek when Devendra sneaked into the woman’s house.
Yesterday, the Guyana Chronicle was reliably informed that following negotiations with ranks at Parika, the man’s family, at approximately 13:00hrs telephoned the police to say that Devendra Persaud had come forward and was ready and willing to be brought to justice.
This publication was informed that the relatives and the police both agreed that once the man is willing to turn himself over to be investigated for the crime, that no harm would come his way from the police.
He is expected to appear in court as early as tomorrow. Today the man is expected to be grilled by the police in relation to the matter.
Meanwhile, the man’s reputed wife remains a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital. Yesterday this publication was informed that the relatives of the suspect had been in contact with the police. A police source who asked to remain unnamed told this reporter that the family members did confirm that they were in contact with the man, but were aware of where he was.
The incident, it was stated by some persons, stemmed from the woman developing a relationship with a younger man after she and Devendra ended their relationship sometime ago.
