LAST Monday, wife of the British High Commissioner to Guyana, Mrs. Bettina Ayre, along with Project Trust Education Development Officer, Heloise Allan and Project Trust Country Representative, Kala Seegopaul, visited the two Project Trust Volunteers posted in Orealla, Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne).
The delegation visited Charlotte Murphy and Natalie Thoirs and observed a few of their lessons, and also took the opportunity to meet with Head Mistress, Diane Lewis, of the Orealla Primary school.
“We are trying to see how the Project Trust volunteers can maximize the potential benefit for the schools they teach in, the country as a whole, and the experience they gain as volunteer teachers,” explained Ms Allan.
She also visited other volunteers in other sites across the country, including at the Three-Mile Secondary School in Bartica, the Holy Name Primary School in Goshen, Region 7; and the Wauna Primary School in Region 1.

The Orealla volunteers said they enjoy being in Orealla, and explained that they have made some progress in traditional Amerindian basket weaving, which is native to that area. Both Thoirs and Murphy said they were looking forward to continue teaching for the rest of the academic year, and are hoping for the best possible results from their students at their upcoming examinations.
