THREE men appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday on joint fraud charges.
Conrad Wright, 52, of Lot 13 Friendship, East Bank Demerara, Claremont Randy Wright, 27, of Lot 2269 North Ruimveldt and Robert Underwood, 52, of Lot 52 Fifth Street, Alberttown, also in Georgetown, were charged indictably.
Particulars of one offence said, on March 23 last, at Springlands, Corentyne, Berbice, being the bailee of three motor cars valued a total $7.4M, they fraudulently converted the properties of Vinod Panday to their own use and benefit.
Another charge said the trio, on March 26, being the bailee of a motor car valued $2.6M; the property of the same Panday they fraudulently converted it to their own use and benefit.
Police Corporal Seon Blackman, prosecuting, objected to bail for the accused, on the ground that they are flight risks and may not return to court.
The prosecutor said the men were only recently arrested.
Defence Counsel Mark Waldron said the men were in police custody for five days and the prosecutor’s basis for the refusal has no merit.
The magistrate overruled the objection and allowed pre-trial freedom in the sum of $3.5M each and the cases were transferred to Springlands Court, Corentyne, for November 23.
