Female driver in near miss with container truck

A FEMALE driver almost lost her life, on Wednesday, when she attempted to overtake a forty-foot container truck on Friendship Public Road, East Bank Demerara.
She was driving motor car PJJ 8876 when she tried to pass GPP 7654 and ended up in the path of an oncoming truck from the opposite direction. She had tried to overtake on a corner despite the presence of a double yellow line.
The driver of the container vehicle, noting that the woman was clearly in a difficult situation, began to slow down in an effort to allow her to get back into the correct lane and avoid a head-on collision.
However, the woman still found she was unable to stop in time and the truck clipped the rear of the woman’s Toyota Starlet, causing it to land in a clump of bushes on road shoulder.
Eyewitnesses said, had the container truck hit the woman’s car harder, her vehicle would have landed in the Demerara River.
Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle later, the driver of the container truck, Lloyd Williams said he was still shaken at the woman’s action.
He said he was heading to Georgetown and his truck was loaded with logs and, after the woman appeared oblivious to the disaster she nearly caused, she offered to fix his truck which was slightly damaged.
At the time he spoke with this newspaper, he said he was still trying to understand what would have happened had he not applied brakes and prevented the crash.
