TORONTO, Canada — After playing the first four matches of the 2011-12 Regional four-day tournament and being dropped for the remainder of the competition, middle-order batsman Royston Crandon is aiming to regain his place in Guyana’s squad for the 2013 season.
The 29-year-old Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets player, who is also a capable off-spinner, has just completed a successful season in Canada, leading Hawaiian Arctic Cricket Club (HACC) to championship honours in the Scarborough Cricket League, their third consecutive title.
The right-handed stroke player, who batted on four occasions in the preliminary rounds and was undefeated twice, hit a top score of 87 in his tally of 115, averaging 38.33. He also took seven wickets at 14.86 runs apiece.
In the three playoffs games for HACC, he took seven wickets, averaging 11.57 runs, with his best bowling figures being 5 for 27 from 10 overs, while he batted 3 times for a total of 134 runs with his highest score being an unbeaten 67.
Turning his attention to the Toronto and District Premier League, where he represented Victoria Park Cricket Club in the Elite and Premier League, Crandon played 10 matches, totalled 315 runs with a highest score of 98 and took 11 wickets at 21.18 runs apiece.
In the Premier Division, Crandon who made his first-class debut for Guyana against Trinidad and Tobago at Point-a-Pierre in January 2007, hit 178 runs in six games, blasting a highest score of 132 in the process and in his only bowling stint, he took three for 12.
In 24 First Class matches, he has totalled 1 082 runs for an overall average of 25.76 with a top score of 136 not out and has also struck six fifties.
There was also the unexpected high of a West Indies cap in 2009 when he was picked for the Champions Trophy after the region’s leading players withdrew following a contractual dispute with the West Indies Cricket Board and played his lone game against India at Johannesburg, managing a paltry 5 runs.
