Marijuana possession defendant granted $50,000 bail

QUINCY Reid (no address given) appeared in court yesterday and pleaded not guilty, before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarne-Beharry, to being in possession of a narcotic.
Particulars of the offence said, on October 26, he had six grammes of cannabis.

Police Sergeant Winneth Hubbard, prosecuting, said police, on mobile patrol, observed the defendant acting in a suspicious manner and he was stopped.
A search of his person yielded the illegal substance in one of the defendant’s pockets, the prosecutor said, not objecting to bail.
Defence Counsel Paul Fung-a-Fat requested reasonable surety, claiming that the police weighed the illegal substance inside a plastic bag, which had air and moisture that increased the weight.
Reid was ordered to post $50,000 bail and the lawyer sought a reduction, arguing that the real amount was four grammes.
However, the magistrate did not reduce it and postponed the case to November 1.
