UP to press time last evening, 24 year old Camp Street prison inmate, Cladwin Haywood, remained a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was stabbed four times in the back.
Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle yesterday morning at the hospital, mother of the prisoner, Janis Haywood, of 1033 South Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, said that she was at work when she got a call from her daughter, Candacy Haywood, informing her that Cladwin was stabbed.
The woman, who works as a security guard, told this publication that she was at a location in David Street Kitty, and her supervisor
released to tend to her emergency. She arrived at the hospital where doctors informed her that they were not sure if her 24-year-old son was going to survive the stabbing attack. Ms. Haywood explained that her son was at the time in an unconscious state and was receiving oxygen.
The woman said that her son has been on remand for the past four years after he was accused and charged with murder. She said that she is not sure if her son committed the act, since he was not living with her at the time he was accused of the capital offence.
The woman said that she is frustrated at the period of time her son has been in the facility, stating that each time the case is called, it’s held over and he is further remanded.
