THE Highveld Lions moved a step closer to the semi-finals of the Champions League Twenty20 with a six-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings in Cape Town.
Jean Symes held his nerve in the final overs to help his side past Chennai’s 158 for six with three balls to spare.
The Lions needed nine from Albie Morkel’s final over but Symes made short work of that equation as he blasted the second and third deliveries to the ropes.
Symes finished unbeaten on 39 from 23 balls after opener Gulam Bodi, who had seen his side slip into early trouble at eight for two, set up the chase with 64 off 46.
Chennai’s hopes of qualification appear doomed as they remain winless after their opening two games in Group B.
Skipper MS Dhoni top-scored for the Indian side with 34 from 26 balls but six of his side’s batsmen reached 20 without going on to make a decisive contribution. (PA Sport)
