RICKY Ranjee, the truck driver who avoided a major smash-up on September 22 at Rahaman’s Turn, Houston, Georgetown, when a car strayed into his path, is expected to undergo another surgical operation at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) to repair a leg broken in three places.
Last week, he underwent a surgical operation to mend ruptured intestines.
Ranjee has been a patient in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the GPH since the accident happened, and is allowed to have only liquid meals.
Ranjee’s brother, Vishaul, told the Guyana Chronicle, yesterday, that although Ranjee’s hand needs to be looked at, since it is broken, he is responding well to treatment, and is on the road to recovery.
As for Devon (only name given) one of three porters who were occupants of the heavy duty truck at time of the accident, has been a patient in the Male Surgical Ward at the Georgetown Public Hospital and is being treated for several injuries about the body.
Ranjee, 41, of Lot 120 Regent Road, Bourda, is a truck driver with many years’ experience. He prevented a potentially serious accident when he swerved into a concrete fence at Rahaman’s Turn to avoid hitting a car that had strayed into his path on that Saturday morning of September 22.
The truck had crashed into the fence of a house at Rahaman’s Turn, just opposite Tent City, after taking down the billboards as well as the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras that were mounted on poles there. The front of the truck was badly damaged, and the car and its driver were detained at the Ruimveldt Police Station, assisting with investigations.
The truck Ranjee was driving, GPP 2824, is attached to Zaman Trucking Service, Auto Mechanic and Spare Parts.
Reports are that the two other occupants of the truck had managed to escape with relatively minor injuries, and one of them was treated and sent away, while Ranjee and Devon are still hospitalised.
Fire fighters had to cut the badly damaged truck to free the men.
