EZjet flies to T&T from today, 120 seats booked – There is still need for “Air Capacity”- Minister Irfaan Ali

MINISTER of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Irfaan Ali, said that the move by EZjet to offer flights to Trinidad is a welcome one, and one that fits into the market perfectly.

In an invited comment, Minister Ali said that the government has encouraged airline operators, both local and outsiders, to invest in the sector since there is a need for such investments.
The airline has so far been able to penetrate the New York and Toronto markets, and today’s inaugural flight to Port of Spain is being seen as one of the biggest successes for the airline. Today’s flight is expected to see 120 passengers taking up seats onboard the aircraft.
Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle the airline said that the response that it has been getting from the Guyanese market has proved to them that their service to this country is being embraced by the citizens.
The airline said that since its entrance on the market, it has enjoyed full flights during peak periods and flights during off peak periods have been rewarding also. EZjet said that it has created a niche for itself in both the local and international markets.
Better fares have been promised to the Guyanese travelling public with the airline’s Port of Spain route coupled with superior customer service.  Country manager of the airline, Rosalinda Rasul, said that the management team is very excited about the new route and continues to ensure that it provides comfort and enjoyable travel to customers who use its services and at an affordable price.
The airline announced that it will be offering a return fare to Trinidad for US$125 and a one-way for US$75. What makes this even more exciting is that the airline is giving regional travellers the full bag weight as they would have had on the flights to New York and Toronto. EZjet said that this is part of its introductory offer, and it is accommodating two bags at 66 lbs each in addition to their carry on of up to 22 lbs.
The minister said that he was extremely happy that EZjet has responded positively to the call and has expanded its operation to Trinidad and recently Canada. According to the minister, the call was made after it was realized that there was a need for the expansion of the sector. He reminded that the calls were made after it was realized that there was a need for air capacity and it was on that basis that persons were encouraged to expand their operations in the sector.
Minister Ali said that the decision by EZjet to fly to Trinidad was a wise move, since that part of the region has a high travelling rate and persons travelling in and out of that country have proved to have a more handsome spending power than some other countries.
With EZjet tapping into the Trinidad and Tobago travel market, it is widely anticipated that the tourism sector will once again see another boost since traveling between Guyana and Trinidad will become even more affordable with the competition that is expected to be created. In addition, the entrance into the T&T market is expected to boost trade between the two countries.
