WEARING an infectious smile and oozing attractive serenity, charm and confidence, Miss Jamzone International 2012, Jamaica’s Kerry Baylis, had the audience on her side from the moment she walked on stage. The 23-year-old Insurance Underwriter, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Surrey, also copped the Best Gown, Body Beautiful and Best Cultural Presentation titles.
In prizes, she took home US$10,000 and a Kindle fire e-reader.
Persons who attended the 3rd Miss Jamzone International Pageant will remember many things, most memorable definitely being Baylis’s riveting cultural presentation in which she sold Jamaica like a pro.
At the beginning of her presentation, she animatedly told the crowd, “I’m the Jamaican Dancehall Queen,” as she entered on stage dancing to the popular Beenie Man and Chevelle Franklin hit. You can rest assured that she definitely lived up to that title. The crowd went wild as Kerrie danced to Konshen’s ‘Bubble Gyal’, Elephant Man’s ‘Nuh Linga’, ‘Three Little Birds’ by Bob Marley, and a slew of other Jamaican songs.
At times the crowd seemed undecided whether to root for Guyana’s Ayana Harris or the captivating Jamaican stranger.
The Miss Jamzone Committee expressed their pride at having Miss Kerrie Baylis of Jamaica as the third Miss Jamzone International Queen. On their website, the committee offers congratulations to the first runner-up, Louise Victor of St Lucia; and to Trevicia Adams of St Kitts and Nevis, Ayana Harris of Guyana, and Renee Bhagwandeen of Trinidad & Tobago, who walked away with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th runners-up titles respectively.
Harris of Guyana was crowned Miss Congeniality.
