Shameer Khan fined $15,000 for stealing bulb worth $500

SHAMEER Khan on Tuesday was fined $15,000 with an alternative of 10 days’ imprisonment for stealing one energy saver bulb worth $500. Appearing before Georgetown Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, he pleaded guilty to stealing one energy saver bulb valued at $500., property of Erwin Lowe, on August 12, at North Road, Georgetown.
Police Inspector Burgett Grant, prosecuting, said that on the day in question, at around 18:20 hrs, Lowe found the defendant in his yard at North Road, Georgetown removing an energy saver bulb that was attached to the side of Lowe’s house.
He questioned the defendant what he was doing in his yard, and who gave him permission to remove the bulb.
The defendant could not give a satisfactory answer, and the virtual complainant took him to the Brickdam Police Station, where ranks investigated the matter and subsequently charged the defendant.
Khan told the court that he went into Lowe’s yard to look for a piece of rope when he saw the bulb on the ground and decided to pick it up.
He begged the court to pardon him since it was a minor offence, but the magistrate thought otherwise.
