Commercial sex worker fined $35,000 for unlawful wounding – on $10,000 bail for abusive language charge

A COMMERCIAL sex worker yesterday appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton to answer charges of unlawful wounding and abusive language. Wesley Holder, 18, of Lot 65 Cross and Leopold Streets Werk-en-Rust pleaded guilty to the wounding charge, which stated that on July 31, at High and Hadfield Streets, he unlawfully wounded Stacy Caesar. Also on the said day, he made use of abusive language to Caesar, he pleaded not guilty.
Police Inspector Burgett Grant prosecuting said on the day in question the defendant and virtual complainant had an argument which led to a fight between the two.
Grant said the defendant cuffed Caesar to her face and she received injuries to her right eye. She said a medical certificate was obtained and a report was made.
The prosecutor said the defendant was later arrested and charged and he admitted to wounding the virtual complainant.
The defendant told the court that he is a commercial sex worker and he was dancing in the vicinity of Stabroek Market square when the virtual complainant pass and pelted him with a bottle. He said he picked up a bottle with liquid and pelted the virtual complainant.
Holder said the virtual complainant became annoyed and told him that the bottle had urine inside and she began to verbally abuse him. He said he ran behind her at High Street and they began to fight.
The defendant admitted that he bored the virtual complainant in her eyes because she pulled his wool that he had on his hair.
Holder was fined $35,000 or an alternative of one month imprisonment. He was placed on $10,000 bail on the abusive language and is expected to return to court on September 27.
