Guard on assault charges granted $80,000 bail

SECURITY Guard, Edward Mc Cullen, of Lot 67 Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, on Monday appeared before Georgetown Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on charges that he had unlawfully assaulted Natoya James and Nickel Moore on August 10 at a party. The 33-year-old former police officer now attached to a former Assistant Police Commissioner pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Police Corporal, Simone Payne, prosecuting said the defendant allegedly pulled out his firearm and pointed it at the two virtual complainants. Payne said the firearm has not yet been retrieved, and that other charges are likely to be instituted against the defendant.
The magistrate told the court that the defendant had previously appeared before on a firearm charge, but had not been convicted because the police had failed to prosecute the matter.
Mc Cullen was placed on $80,000 bail, and the matters were set for recall in court on September 24.
