A BLOCKED drainage trench at Dunkel Village has caused serious problems between two neighbours on the Essequibo Coast. A report said the trench, near the public road, is a responsibility of the Evergreen-Paradise Neighbourhood Democratic Council, and must be kept clear so as to allow quick discharge of water when it rains.
But according to one neighbour, Pooran (only name given) the trench is blocked in front of his neighbour’s yard and the NDC is not making any effort to have it cleared.
Pooran, who does farming and rears livestock for his livelihood said water from the trench flooded his yard for several days, causing some of his livestock to die and he decided to clear the trench.
According to Pooran, he cleared the trench in front of his neighbour’s yard and tried to clear his blocked broken down wooden koker to let the water flow through; but he was cursed and embarrassed by his neighbour for interfering with the blocked koker.
Pooran said he reported the matter to the Evergreen-Paradise NDC and still there is no action to correct the problem.
He said the next step is to visit the Regional Administrative Office if the NDC does not act quickly.
