Men granted self-bail on wife assault charges

MARK Moore, of Lot 49 Friendship, East Coast Demerara, was granted self bail yesterday on an assault charge.
In front of Acting Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, he pleaded not guilt to having, on July 24, in Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, Georgetown; he assaulted his reputed wife, Alicia George.
His case has been put off to September 10.
He was one of two men similarly charged and treated the same way.
The other man, Ramlall Bachan, a Trinidadian residing in Guyana, is alleged to have, on July 24 at the Central Passport and Immigration Office, on Camp Road, Georgetown, assaulted his reputed wife, Suhini Budhu.
He pleaded not guilty but the Police Prosecutor, Corporal Denise Booker said the couple went to the office and he was given a message that some male friend was outside to see her.
The defendant became annoyed and dealt the woman a cuff to her chest, the prosecutor said.
Bachan said he is to return to Trinidad on August 23, begged the court to be lenient with him and was put on self bail until July 30.
