Father in custody following freak accident at Islington Village

A FATHER was in police custody yesterday , after his six-year-old son was crushed to death by the car he was repairing at Sixth street, Islington, Greater New Amsterdam, Berbice. Dead is Suraj Beharry called Ajay, a Grade One student of the Overwinning Primary School, which is a short distance from his home.
His mother, Salina Pertamber , 22, lamented that her eldest child did not get to say ‘Ow Mummy’, before he died.
Earlier, Muneshwar Sukram age 30, was in the process of reconditioning a Nissan Sentra  motor vehicle, having removed parts from an older model he possessed.
The recently purchased vehicle was once driven by the co-founder of Matrix  Video Production and Entertainment Corporation, Mr Kenneth Smith , who had succumbed to injuries following a freak motor accident on February 4, 2005, at Stanleytown, New Amsterdam ,Berbice .
According to the boy’s mother , the family had sought the services of a mechanic , who advised that parts be removed from the older vehicle unto the newer car, and her husband was in the process of doing so.

In an effort to access a part from under the recently purchased vehicle ,the front wheel on the driver’s side was placed on a jack, but the mechanic thereafter advised that the wheel on the passenger side be removed also.  Having only one jack to do the job, the driver’s side of the vehicle was propped with blocks of wood, while the instrument was used on the opposite side.
The grieved mother recalled that she left the home shortly afterwards to throw fish entrails over the nearby sea wall .When she left home, her son was holding his one-year-old sister Ariane  who was crying at the time.
However, on her return minutes later, she observed that the boy had crawled under the car , and before she could have uttered  “come out
from under there’, the jack snapped, pinning the child under the car .
His  father then called for him several times, but there was no response. He attempted to lift the car , but he was unable to do so. Neighbours then rushed over and they lifted the car. But by then the boy was dead. His head was crushed’.
This newspaper observed what appeared to be portions of the brain and blood stains in the yard, where the incident occurred  just before midday yesterday.
Describing her son, Pertamber said, “He is so loving and helpful He got 65% at his end-of-term test. He got 12th space’. Ow my son, you gone and leave me’, she mourned.
The deceased also leaves to mourn a four-year-old sister Alicia Beharry , who lives with their grandparents at D Edward Village, West Coast Berbice, and his step brother Aaron Sukram, along with other relatives and friends.
