Women’s Inter Association Football Tournament… RUPUNUNI FACES GEORGETOWN IN BATTLE FOR TOP HONOURS

TODAY, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Inter Association Football Tournament wraps up at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground from 17:00 hrs, when defending champions Georgetown and Rupununi square off. Georgetown needs to win to retain the title while Rupununi needs a draw or a win to claim the title.
Trophies and cash incentives will be at stake and a tense, keen and exciting game is anticipated. Admission is free.
Meanwhile, action in the Inter Association continued over the weekend with Rupununi winning both of their games to climb to the top of the points table.
On Friday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground they defeated West Demerara 6 – 1. Scoring for the girls from Region nine were Kelisa Leonard (16th and 51st) and Sonia Griffith (53rd and 78th) both scored doubles while Samantha Daniels and MurisaVan Long scored a goal each.
The lone scorer for West Demerara was the diminutive forward Abiola Heywood.
The more experienced Rupununi side had two Senior Nationals and three Junior Nationals in their line up as they opposed the West Demerara side with the eldest player being just 16 years old.
On Sunday at GFC, Bartica was destroyed by Rupununi 7 – 1 in a one-sided affair which took the latter to the top of the points standing. Rupununi was ahead 1 – 0 at the start of the second half  but Bartica  got a bit careless which led to them conceding six goals in the half.
Van Long scored a hat- trick in the 36th, 54th and 56th minute, National U20 and U16 Lady Jags Player Urselene Primus scored twice in the 66th and 86th minute, Senior National Sonia Griffith scored in the 72nd minute and National U16 Captain Dian Mandokin scored in the 78th min.
