Several persons injured in D’urban/Smyth Streets smash up -including pregnant woman

SEVERAL persons were injured yesterday afternoon when a motor car crashed into a Route 41 minibus and sent it tumbling out of control, before eventually ending up on its side in the middle of the intersection. Among the injured was a pregnant woman who was bleeding profusely from external injuries suffered, but was subjected to a thorough examination on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. She was kept at the institution last night under surveillance.

Others among the injured were:  71-year-old Jean Lewis of Guyhoc Park; Petual Christian 18, also of Guyhoc Park; Imam Williams, 23, of South Ruimveldt Park; Emmanuel Lacon 20, of Guyhoc Park who suffered a broken shoulder among other things. All the injured appeared to have suffered multiple injuries.
Driver of the minibus, BLL 5601, Noel Peters, said that he had just left the Stabroek bus park, and was travelling along D’Urban Street
enroute to Guyhoc Park, when around 18:00 hrs, a motor car PJJ 6418, travelling north along Smyth Street, jumped the major road and ploughed into his bus.
On impact, the minibus was thrust ahead, landing dangerously on its side and in the middle of the road. The loud impact sent several persons in the neighbourhood at the time, rushing to the scene to render assistance to the injured persons who were screaming, bleeding and badly traumatized. They were pulled from the bus by public spirited persons and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).
Both driver and conductor of the minibus escaped unhurt, and commuters confirmed the report given by the bus driver, as to the cause of the accident
Meanwhile, the driver of the motor car was arrested by police and is in custody at the Brickdam Police Station.
