IN LIGHT of the reality that Linden is the largest mining community in Guyana, the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) is expressing concern about the wellbeing of the community and its residents. On Friday, the GGDMA circulated a press release from its public relations department in which it noted that as a representative of the mining industry, it is further concerned about the socio-economic impact the current conflict will have on mining.
The GGDMA said it remains greatly perturbed at the events which resulted in the loss of life, damage to property, and the general state of unease in Linden. The GGDMA said that it is also deeply disturbed by the use of deadly force by the Guyana Police Force.
The mining association has said that it joins in the call for peace, good order, and any investigation that will help bring the truth to light.
Further, it added that it would like to see speedy removal of all obstacles that stand in the way of peaceful negotiation and resolution to the issues that affect the Linden community.
The association said it stands ready to offer any assistance, in whatever way possible, to help arrive at a peaceful and resolute approach to the situation in Linden.
In the interest of safety, the association is advising miners who are accustomed to using the Linden route into the interior to seek alternatives routes in accessing their operations in the hinterland.
