Shew fulfils promise to Fudadin

POPULAR businessman and sports enthusiast Manniram “Packer” Shew has fulfilled his promise to Guyana and West Indies middle-order batsman Assad Fudadin. A staunch supporter of young Guyanese cricketers, Shew had pledged to award $400 for every run scored by Fudadin in the third and final Test match between the touring West Indies team and England, played last month at Edgbaston, England.
In his only turn at the crease, the debutant Fudadin hit a defiant 28 and instead of the promised $400, Shew increased the amount to $500 per run and in addition to that gesture, the left-hander was also presented with a sizeable trophy.
The Rose Hall Town Youth Gizmos and Gadgets first division player earned his West Indian call-up after tallying 578 runs in this year’s regional four-day tournament, the second highest by any player and bettered only by compatriot Narsingh Deonarine’s 582.
He slammed two centuries, including a top-score of 108, and three fifties with an average of 48.00 runs per innings and last Tuesday at the Everest Sports Club pavilion, Shew made good on his promise to Fudadin, having done the same with discarded West Indies leg spinner Devendra Bishoo last year.
