Expired goods seized, destroyed on Essequibo Coast

THE Regional Environmental Health Department in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) has seized and  destroyed a quantity of expired goods from several wholesale and retail outlets on the Essequibo Coast. Senior Environmental Health Officer Shazera Baksh, who headed an inspection team, said the focus of the exercise was mainly on businesses at Good Hope, Pomona, Annandale, Aberdeen, Zorg-en-Vlught and Riverstown.
She said the merchandise confiscated included Busta drinks, ‘Hot and Spicy’ barbecue sauces, Cranberry beverages, ‘Holiday’ and ‘Sunshine’ products, ‘Chief’ seasoning, cookies, ‘Soca’ drinks, ‘Del Monte’ corn, tomato sauce and glucose powder.
Baksh advised the general public, especially shoppers, to check labels for expiry dates before purchasing merchandise and not to purchase unlabelled ones.
