Reporter was given my name and designation

I would like to bring to your attention the Guyana Chronicle story of June 29, 2012, headlined: “Police grant bail, UG sends professor on leave,” which states erroneously that someone from the Public Relations Office “spoke on condition of anonymity.” It is misleading to say that “…an official of the Public Relations Office, who spoke on condition of anonymity” when in fact the reporter was given my name and designation when I responded to her request for a comment. I told her that the UG Administration was at present investigating the matter in question; hence no other comment would be forthcoming at this time.

It is important to clarify that the Public Relations Division issues official comments or statements from the University and no staffer in the Division has or will ever engage in subterfuge in dealing with the mass media and I strongly resent the implication.
For the record, the reporter has since apologised.
