ARSHAD Aziz of Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara, is currently nursing injuries he sustained after two men severely beat and robbed him of his Toyota Allion motor car late Friday night. The incident, which apparently began in the vicinity of Turkeyen where he was accosted, but ended at Ogle where the assault took place, reportedly occurred just after 23:00hrs (11:00pm)on the night in question.
According to reports, the man’s face had to be stitched to staunch the flow of blood from injuries he received at the hands of his captors to  his mouth, back of his head, and shoulders. Besides his car, his assailants also relieved him of his cell-phone and an unknown sum of money.
Asking to remain anonymous, a source close to the man related that the incident unfolded as the man was returning to Georgetown from taking his fiancée home on the upper East Coast.
It appears that the 23-year-old had stopped to relieve himself when he was pounced upon by the two men, who then ordered him back into the vehicle and demanded that he proceed to Ogle.
The unmasked carjackers reportedly took up their positions in the back and front passenger seats of the car; the one at the back pressed something against him, but Aziz is unsure whether it was a gun or some other object.
He was forced to drive along the Ogle Airstrip Road, and once at a lonely spot, was ordered to disembark the vehicle, with which he complied. Not satisfied with his acquiescence, they then began beating him.
When the beating had subsided and the bandits had made good their escape, the source said, Aziz managed to make his way to a hotel on the Ogle Public Road, where he related what had transpired.
The police were called in, and on seeing the severity of his injuries, offered to take the injured lad to the Georgetown Hospital so he could receive medical attention.
The vehicle was subsequently found in the Le Repentir Cemetery yesterday morning stripped of several or its vital parts, including items from its interior. The man’s family members had reportedly searched several areas for the vehicle, including the location where it was found.
Over time, there have been several incidents of cars having been hijacked being found abandoned at the Le Repentir Cemetery.
Just two weeks ago, the police were able to apprehend a carjacker while his accomplice managed to escape. The men had earlier hijacked a taxi driver from a temporary car park on the East Coast of Demerara.
The police are said to be investigating this latest incident. Up to press time, no one has been arrested in connection with this Friday night incident.
