Ralph Ramkarran parts company with PPP
ACCORDING to reports going the rounds all day yesterday and late into the evening, former Speaker of the House, Ralph Ramkarran has rescinded his membership of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) following internal disagreements.
According to Inews Guyana, party General-Secretary, President Donald Ramotar is well aware of Ramkarran’s decision, and has confirmed receipt of his letter of resignation. Ramkarran was a high-ranking official within the party.
Demerara Waves was first to break the story, and substantiated it by publishing a  statement purportedly issued by Ramkarran as well as his Letter of Resignation. Both statement and resignation letter read as follows:

Statement:
My resignation from the People’s Progressive Party was handed in to the office of the General-Secretary this morning.
At a meeting of the Executive Committee on Friday, June 29, 2012, disquiet was expressed about the confidentiality of discussions in my presence having regard to my recent article on corruption. However difficult it might be to link the two issues, the intensity of the discussions were such that further participation in the activities of the PPP would be a challenge.

RALPH RAMKARRAN
June 30, 2012

Letter of Resignation:
June 30, 2012.
Cde. Donald Ramotar,
General-Secretary,
Freedom House,
Robb Street,
Georgetown.

Dear General Secretary,
I tender my resignation from the Peoples Progressive Party.
Yours fraternally,

Ralph Ramkarran

In recent times, Ramkarran has been at odds with the party, especially after his failed bid to secure the presidential nomination at last year’s election.
More recently, he had called on his party comrades to deal with the issue of corruption within the government.
Repeated efforts yesterday to contact government and party officials for confirmation of these reports proved futile.
