After several days…

Flood hit Kingston residents still in confusion
RESIDENTS of the Georgetown, Kingston ward are still in a state of confusion after, collectively, losing millions of dollars through the recent flooding of their homes.
Three days after the occurrence, caused by an intoxicated (drunk) sluice operator falling asleep and leaving the door open, almost every house in the area was inundated by the rise of the high tide in the Demerara River.
The affected people are now pondering their next move and hoping for possible compensation although many of them are not too optimistic, since the employer of the culpable man is the Mayor and City Council (M&CC), which, over the years, has been lamenting its cash strapped status.
The Guyana Chronicle was reliably informed that the errant operator is still on the job waiting what fate has in store for him, as investigations continue.
The personnel investigating the circumstances   are to compile a report and submit it to the Council which will deliberate on sanctions.
Last Thursday, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Mr. Collin Croal indicated that a letter was being sent to City Hall recommending immediate dismissal of the errant operator and probable criminal charges.
