Defendant who could not accept bail offer remanded

JOEL Small (no address given) was remanded to prison yesterday, on a simple larceny charge. He appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on June 13, he stole 23 pieces of wood, valued a total of $23,000, property of Desmond Plummer.
The magistrate enquired from the defendant if he would like to go on bail, but he told the court he does not have money to lodge surety.
He claimed, though, that he  stole only three pieces of wood and that the police had added more.
Small is to be back in court on July 3.
