Den Amstel, Seawall, Beavers secure wins

… Wales and Eagles share points
ANOTHER exciting football match concluded at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground when the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) Stag Beer senior league continued with double-header matches last weekend before an increasingly growing crowd.
Sunday’s double-header brought excitement to the fans, with Seawall Football Club inflicting a 14-1 drubbing on newcomers Bagotville.
The score was 7-1 at the half-way mark with goals from Gadi Hoyte (2nd), Rawl Haynes (11th, 34th), Marlon Agade (Bagotville custodian 16th minute own goal), Mark Boyce (25th), Julius Griffith (37th) and Keyon Boyce (40th). All found the back of the net at will.
The resumption of the second half saw a similar number of goals, with Haynes completing his hat-trick in the 51st minute, Sherwin Liverpool 53rd, Andy Gillis 66th and 81st and Mark Boyce striking in the 77th.  Jesse Dos Santos pulled one back for Bagotville in the 32nd minute.
The supporting match saw Den Amstel command the lead by winning their second match against Stewartville 3-1, thanks to goals from Paul Payne who opened the score sheet for the home side in the 5th minute and supported the second goal from Jeffrey Pereira in the 28th minute.
Stewartville was not daunted as Owen McGarrell rebounded with a first time shot to convert his goal in the 40th minute to ensure the scoreline read 2-1 at the end of the first half.
Both teams were demonstrating a good brand of football, with exciting dribbling skills, accurate passing and good possession as they moved the ball around the thirds of the field, creating an excellent piece of football excitement.
This was not all that was on show as the final goal to end the game came off the boot of Keyon Ward in the 78th minute to move the score to 3-1 in the home side’s favour.
In the Saturday’s matches Wales and Eagles shared points in a nil-all draw while in the second game, Beavers, through a Delroy Haynes goal, came away with a 1-0 win over Pouderoyen Young Achievers.
The tournament continues tomorrow and Sunday at the same venue. In tomorrow’s action Pouderoyen Young Achievers will take on Den Amstel while in the supporting game Uitvlugt Warriors and Wales will clash.
In Sunday’s first match Beavers and Stewartville do battle and in the supporting match Eagles will look to emulate Stewartville and claw their way to victory when they face Bagotville, with kick-off time for both matches being 14:00hrs and 16:00hrs respectively..
