Neesa Gopaul murder case…

Prosecution closes at preliminary inquiry
SPECIAL Prosecutor, Prithima Kissoon yesterday closed the prosecution at the preliminary inquiry (PI) in the Neesa Gopaul murder case.
The victim’s mother, Bibi Gopaul and her lover, Jarvis Small are charged with unlawfully killing the former Queen’s College (QC) student.
The PI, being conducted by Acting Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry over almost two years, will continue on June 29, with the defence making written submissions.
Senior Counsel, Bernard De Santos, who represents Small, requested 10 days to prepare his and the magistrate said she would notify Gopaul’s defence counsel, Vic Puran, who was absent, that he will be given the same time for preparation.
At the previous hearing, the magistrate ruled on a number of objections Puran made to evidence given by several prosecution witnesses and admitted the testimony.
The two accused are alleged to have committed the crime between September 24 and October 2, 2010 and the corpse was found, barely recognisable, stuffed in a suitcase retrieved from Madewini Creek, along Soesdyke/Linden Highway near Emerald Tower Resort.
