Remanded on fraud, larceny charges

NARESH Karan, of Lot 221 Grove/Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was remanded to prison yesterday, on charges of fraudulent conversion and simple larceny. Both charges, before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, were indictable and one alleged that, on April 30, at Stabroek Market, in Georgetown, being entrusted by Sattie Singh, with $20,000 to purchase five one gallon tins of paint, he fraudulently converted the money to his own use and benefit.
The other charge said, on June 6, he stole one Blackberry phone, valued $50,000, property of Nalinie Singh.
Police Corporal Simone Payne, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for the accused, stating that he did not give an address when arrested.
The Prosecutor said Karan also gave police two wrong telephone numbers for his mother.
He has to make another court appearance on June 18.
